My sister studies fashion design and I help her do an assignment on swimwear for full figure women. Please tell me which style you would pick/choose if you are plus size:

1- One piece swimsuits: V-neck, Halter or Square neck

2- Two piece swimsuits: Tankinis, skirtinis

3- Swimdresses

4- Softbras or Underwire swimsuit

5- Plain colour, mixed colours or stripes (vertical, horizontal)

All answers will be highly appreciated !

I am a plus size woman and I prefer a one piece with a sexy neckline such as a halter or plunge type to show off my "assets" and draw attention away from other areas.

Built in bras are a MUST for us plus size gals too! As far as colors - I prefer solid dark or bright colors. No pastels or flowery prints.

Swim dresses are a definate NO NO! Who wants to look like Ms. Piggy on the beach?

As a plus size woman, I prefer shortinis with a tank. Skirtinis are nice also, but sometimes I don't want to fool with the skirt rising.

As for bras, definitely softbra. Comfort is extremely important to me and underwires is just one more thing to press against my skin.

I tend to stick with darker colors, but that's just my personal preference. Stripes on a plus size woman should be vertical. Horizontal makes you look larger.

Where can I find one that doesn't cost $50?? Gosh they are expensive! I mainly want one to use in the tub with my daughter (she's 18 months and not too keen about the big tub) and maybe once or twice to the beach this summer. swim suits are expensive. its just a fact of life. so 50 really isn't all that bad. if you want the basic, walmart or target. for the beach though you might want to go to the mall. im SURE you can find one there.

If you are mainly using it in the tub, just opt for shorts and an old tee shirt. I got a decent quality suit at Walmart for like $30 size XL.

Layne Bryant, Macy's and maybe check out the Delta Burke line of clothing for large women for a swimsuit..... And, spend a little more on a suit if it makes you feel comfortable. If you plan on wearing it in public, it is worth the extra money. Cheap suits do not hold in the areas that concern you as well as a suit made for your shape.

I got mine at kmart and it was $20.00. It also has an attached skirt which helps cover my thighs

Try Walmart as the suits come in - they usually have a basic tank or two in plus sizes for $10-20.

I know this probably won't be helpful for this upcoming summer, but often times, Lane Bryant can't sell all of theirs, so they put them on clearance as the summer goes on. I got a great one for $23 that was originally over $50.

The one before that I bought at Wal-Mart . . . when I still shopped there. It was reasonably priced, and it has held up. It just wasn't as young of a look as I was hoping for.

Size 11 isn't plus sized, but if you are top heavy, I'd go for a swimsuit that is not too fussy on the top half so as not to draw more attention to the bust area. Darker colours are very slimming and tankinis can cover up problem areas and are very flattering.

I am Smaller on top than the bottom and can't find a swim suit that will fit on top and on bottom and vice versa . And the 2 piece tankini and mix-n-match pieces that are big enough to fit through the midriff area I'm afraid would move up and show belly ect.,

There are lots more options on-line for swimwear in plus-sizes than off, and the good news is we're really starting to see a lot of younger and fresher styles.

If you are dramatically different in size from top and bottom, think about buying tankini tops and bottoms that can be purchased separately to create your own look. Some shops with this option in plu-sizes included Lands End and Target.

Younger, fresher styles can be found in spots like Swimsuits for All, Always for Me, Old Navy, Torrid...... and the list goes on.

swimsuitsforall.com have a large range of one piece plus size swimsuits. Or you could choose a top from their women's range, they go up to a size 16 B/C cup and bottoms from their plus size range, choose a high waisted bottom to cover your tummy.

Depending how much smaller you are in the bust area compared to your hips, it really would be much more flattering to choose a separate top with soft foam cups as these will give support and defintion to your bust and so balance you out.

i would start with lane bryant. i have a good friend who is a plus size and twice a year she does all her shopping there and looks great! they are all over the place and likely have a web site. i'm not sure i've seen swimwear there but don't recall her looking for that, however, i am large breasted and have to have custom made bathing suits because i'm petite over the rest of my body. so there are stores out there to acccomodate you. try an online search for custom bathing suits but check out lane bryant...they are great there and they will likey be happy to help you. good luck!

I'm looking for swimsuits in the Dallas area, but have not been able to find any worth buying. Most places carry only regular sized, or if they have plus-sized, it's the halter tops which don't work for my figure. I am size 18-20, and 23 years old, so I'm not an extreme case.
