My sister studies fashion design and I help her do an assignment on swimwear for full figure women. Please tell me which style you would pick/choose if you are plus size:

1- One piece swimsuits: V-neck, Halter or Square neck

2- Two piece swimsuits: Tankinis, skirtinis

3- Swimdresses

4- Softbras or Underwire swimsuit

5- Plain colour, mixed colours or stripes (vertical, horizontal)

All answers will be highly appreciated !

I am a plus size woman and I prefer a one piece with a sexy neckline such as a halter or plunge type to show off my "assets" and draw attention away from other areas.

Built in bras are a MUST for us plus size gals too! As far as colors - I prefer solid dark or bright colors. No pastels or flowery prints.

Swim dresses are a definate NO NO! Who wants to look like Ms. Piggy on the beach?

As a plus size woman, I prefer shortinis with a tank. Skirtinis are nice also, but sometimes I don't want to fool with the skirt rising.

As for bras, definitely softbra. Comfort is extremely important to me and underwires is just one more thing to press against my skin.

I tend to stick with darker colors, but that's just my personal preference. Stripes on a plus size woman should be vertical. Horizontal makes you look larger.

Personally i like skirtini styles with a short kicky skirt, in a bright color like aqua with some eye catching detail !

im on the "thicker " side and I like the look of halter one pieces , in either a bright color , or a cute pattern

My Mom and I joined a gym and the regular use of the swimming pool and hot tub is bound to have a detrimental effect on our existing suits but winter is not a good time to be buying swimsuits because the stores don't have them or have them at really outrageous prices.

Where can I find one that doesn't cost $50?? Gosh they are expensive! I mainly want one to use in the tub with my daughter (she's 18 months and not too keen about the big tub) and maybe once or twice to the beach this summer. I don't want anything high cut either....something one peice and very basic.

swim suits are expensive. its just a fact of life. so 50 really isn't all that bad. if you want the basic, walmart or target. for the beach though you might want to go to the mall. im SURE you can find one there.

If you are mainly using it in the tub, just opt for shorts and an old tee shirt. I got a decent quality suit at Walmart for like $30 size XL.

Layne Bryant, Macy's and maybe check out the Delta Burke line of clothing for large women for a swimsuit..... And, spend a little more on a suit if it makes you feel comfortable. If you plan on wearing it in public, it is worth the extra money. Cheap suits do not hold in the areas that concern you as well as a suit made for your shape.

I got mine at kmart and it was $20.00. It also has an attached skirt which helps cover my thighs

Try Walmart as the suits come in - they usually have a basic tank or two in plus sizes for $10-20.

I know this probably won't be helpful for this upcoming summer, but often times, Lane Bryant can't sell all of theirs, so they put them on clearance as the summer goes on. I got a great one for $23 that was originally over $50.

The one before that I bought at Wal-Mart . . . when I still shopped there. It was reasonably priced, and it has held up. It just wasn't as young of a look as I was hoping for.

I'm not sure where you live and what stores you have there, but try something like TJ Maxx or Marshalls- you can find nice suit for around $30 or less. Also Target may be a good place to look for swimsuits- they already have them, I went there today and there is tons of summer stuff.

I have looked everywhere for a swimsuit I feel comfortable in... I am a heavy girl (240lbs) and I want something with coverage.. mostly at the bottom because I have heavy thighs... I have looked at Old Navy and they have the tankinis which I hate and I don't want a 2 piece unless it covers my stomach... The Bad News: You're not going to find a GOOD plus-size swimsuit for under $40. Just ain't gonna happen, lol. If you do find one under $40, chances are it's not going to hold you in the right places. For a swimsuit, it's worth it to splurge for quality, if you can.

I wear a size 24 W and am a DDcup. I'm white with shoulder lenght dark brown hair. I need something that will look nice on my skin color and body type. I want a one piece tank or sarong style suit.

Size 11 isn't plus sized, but if you are top heavy, I'd go for a swimsuit that is not too fussy on the top half so as not to draw more attention to the bust area. Darker colours are very slimming and tankinis can cover up problem areas and are very flattering.

Did you try torrid? You will probably be able to find one there. Go to www.torrid.com to see if there are any styles you would wear.
